As a complete beginner I didn't want to drop hundreds on gear I might not stick with, and this combo was the right call. This was my first fly setup and it made learning much less frustrating than I expected. The rod loads nicely at moderate distances which is perfect for practicing casting in the park and on small streams. The included line is serviceable but I upgraded to a better weight-forward line after a month and noticed a real improvement. Reel drag is basic but adequate. Solid foundation kit.

Fished this combo hard all spring and summer, mostly for panfish and small bass. The rod has a few cosmetic scratches but no cracks and the reel still spins true. The flies catch fish, especially the Woolly Buggers. I'd recommend it to anyone starting out.
